Marrung: ensuring all Koorie Victorians achieve their learning aspirations and realise the full benefits of Education ... across early childhood, schools and further education

A new Koorie Education Strategy for Victoria

On Monday 11th July 2016, Minister for Education James Merlino launched Marrung: Aboriginal Education Plan at the Aborigines Advancement League in Thornbury, alongside Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Natalie Hutchins.

"Marrung sees a new era for Koorie education – of aspiration, achievement and excellence. VAEAI is working to support the Education State reform agenda to achieve high levels of Koorie participation and confidence in early childhood, schooling, training and higher education services," said VAEAI President, Ms Geraldine Atkinson, at the launch of Marrung.

Marrung is a Wemba Wemba word for the Murray Cypress pine tree, representing branches of education and knowledge.

The plan was developed with Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency and Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
