TAFE Overview
The VAEAI TAFE Unit has had a number of staff changes. Both Garry Hansen & Les (Lally) Bamblett have taken a career change, we would like to thank Garry & Lally for their excellent contribution & commitment to VAEAI over the past few years and wish them well for their future. We welcome Howard Riley to the TAFE Team in a time where we are positioned for an exciting and challenging phase in the TAFE Sector.

Having said that, the VAEAI TAFE and Wurreker Unit have been particularly busy over the past few months working on a number of projects and reports, these include:
• Good Governance Guide for Koorie Organisations and Registered Training Organisations
• Koorie TAFE Data Base
• 2002 Koorie Training Plan
• TAFE Wurreker Implementation Plans
• LLENS (Local Learning & Employment Networks)
• Koorie TAFE Student of the Year Awards
• Koorie Job Fair

Good Governance Guide
VAEAI has developed a Good Governance Guide for existing & potential Koorie Registered Training Organisations. The Guide is being produced on a CD-ROM and will be launched at the VAEAI TAFE Conference in November and available for distribution in December.

Koorie TAFE Data Base
A Koorie TAFE Data Base is being developed and will contain valuable statistics and information on Koorie Students, TAFE Programs and courses available for Koories and community organisations.

Koorie Student of the Year
This Years’ winner of the Victorian Koorie Student of the Year Award went to Graham (Bootsie) Thorpe. Bootsie studied Psychiatric Disability Support at Swinburne TAFE and will represent Victoria at the National Training Awards in Canberra on the 15th of December.
Congratulations to Bootsie and all the Koorie Students nominated this year, nominations were very talented and individual achievements were of a high standard, again congratulations to everyone involved.

Local Learning Employment Networks (LLENS)
Phase 1 of LLENS Committees is well underway with Phase 2 being announced within the next two weeks. VAEAI has developed a protocol with the Inner Northern LLENS to have Koorie Representation on the Committees. This protocol can be utilised by other LLENS Committees to ensure Koorie Representation on their respective Committees. A total of 31 LLENS Committees will be set-up across Victoria. For more on LLENS contact Nerissa @ VAEAI.

Koorie Job Fair
The VAEAI TAFE Unit co-ordinated this years’ Koorie Job Fair. The Koorie Job Fair is a major community event. The event brings together more than 700 Koorie Secondary School Students and 35 major employer, education and training providers. The Koorie Job Fair was held at the Aboriginal Advancement League on the 14th November 2001.
