Ministerial Review
of Pre-Schools in Victoria
The State Government commissioned Mr. Peter Kirby to undertake a Ministerial
Review of Preschools in Victoria. The VAEAI contributed to the report,
which identifies issues affecting preschools, and identify solutions to
these issues. The report is available on the Community Care website at
www.dhs.vic.gov.au "Kirby Report 2001."
Koorie Early Childhood
Education Program Review
The VAEAI collaborated with DHS to draw the Terms of Reference for the
above Review. The Review aims to improve the access to, and participation
in, preschool programs for Koorie preschool children. In early 2002, consultations
will begin with agencies, individuals and families who have an interest
in the Koorie Early Childhood Education Program.
Early Year Conference
The Minister for Community Services, the Honourable Christine Campbell
MP, has announced that the Department of Human Services will convene its
inaugural Early Years Conference in June 2002. The Conference will focus
Best Practice in the Early Years. The VAEAI is represented on the Conference
Committee.
Redevelopment of
Certificate III in Aboriginal Care
The Office of Employment Training and Tertiary Education (ETTE) has provided
funding for the Curriculum Maintenance Manager (CMM) Human Services of
Swinburne TAFE to work with the VAEAI to redevelop this course.
VAEAI has established
a Working Group to work with the CMM on this project.
The recommendation is to customise the national qualifications, Certificate
III in Community.
