As part of the Indigenous STEM Education Project, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM Professional Awards are now open for applications!

The Awards celebrate and showcase the contributions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM professionals and students are making to innovation through science and technology, and promote role models to inspire future Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students around the country to undertake STEM education and career pathways.

In 2017 as part of the Indigenous STEM Education Project, funded by BHP Billiton Foundation and managed by CSIRO, awards are now open for nominations:

  • Early Career Professional Award, for professionals with up to 5 years post graduate or equivalent experience.
  • Career Achievement Award which recognises career professionals with greater than 5 years post graduate experience or equivalent.

The winners will serve as Indigenous STEM ambassadors and receive opportunities to build their career profile to the value of $20,000.

The Student STEM Achievement Awards aim to recognise, reward and celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have a passion for and are studying STEM.

  • Student award winners who will be enrolled in secondary full time study in 2018 will receive an all-expenses paid trip to attend the annual 2018 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in the USA, as observers.
  • Student award winners enrolled in full time tertiary study in 2018 will receive a cash prize of $5000 to help with study expenses.

These awards recognise and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander STEM professionals who are making significant contributions to their field by establishing, managing or undertaking key STEM initiatives, programs and/or research and who are committed to actively supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people pursue STEM careers.
